My inspiration for art started as a small child. I am one of eight children growing up in Oklahoma. My father would paint, draw and do wood carvings in his spare time. I would watch for dad to come home from work so that I could draw with him and watch him do his art. When I was in grade school, my father would let me help him paint store windows for the Pioneer Days celebration.
I learned sewing and quilting from my mom. Memories of the first quilts made were denim quilts made from my brother's old blue jeans. Mom taught me to sew clothing and make doll clothes. Being part of a large family there was always lots of mending, hemming and sewing to do. I also have memories of helping Mom to recover the furniture with the denim sewn squares . I look back and don't know how they did it, raising eight children, busy work schedules, having a Cub Scout troop, being the church organist, taking us all on camping and fishing trips plus the many picnics that were enjoyed. Mom canned most of our fruits and vegetables, made our own jellies, baked and cooked from scratch and I would be there to help. I guess that is where I get my love for cooking. Nothing beats painting or sewing while you are smelling something baking in the oven.
It has always been a dream to design fabric and I feel really blessed to be a part of Moda. It is the same feeling as being part of a big family. I set "no limits" on my art. I just wish for more hours in a day to accomplish all that I would love to do. My many passions are designing fabrics, creating paintings and murals, illustrating books, sewing, wood carving and baking. I like the simple life and still to this day hang the clothes out on the line to dry.
